"This series of paintings is a departure from my usual genre. Generally I focus on figurative works painted in a realistic, contemporary, impressionist style, that feature people in the Australian landscape. The current zeitgeist has inspired me to look for other optimistic forms of expression to cheer up family and friends—I returned to the art of my youth—Pop Art. Pop Art was born in the fifties; so the artform has been around as long as I have. Generally it’s an amusing and engaging look at the culture, however, most of the Pop art I have viewed seems not to be representational of Australia. Growing up in Australia my favourite foods were meat pies, bananas, and licorice allsorts; the beach is where I spent my time and motorbikes were my passion. Hopefully these paintings remind you of happy moments from your past and bring you a little joy" - Donald Keys.
